REALTOR® University Speaker Series: New Measures of Residential Land Prices Dr. William Larson Senior Economist, Federal Housing Finance Agency Residential land is a main component of property values. An accurate estimate of the land component of residential real estate can provide useful information when appraising properties, either for sale or for real estate taxation purposes. In this presentation, Dr. William Larson will discuss ongoing research on the measurement of residential land prices at the ZIP code level for the United States. Using new methods and data sources, he and his co-authors have calculated among the broadest and most highly disaggregated cross-sections of residential land price estimates available. At FHFA, Dr. Larson serves as an expert in house price indices, urban and regional economics, and the economics of natural disasters. Prior to working at FHFA, he was a Research Economist at the Bureau of Economic Analysis in the Office of the Chief Statistician. He was also Manager for Modelling and Forecasting at the Washington Post’s Research and Analytics department. Dr. Larson has established a diverse portfolio of high quality research, which includes publications in the Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, Real Estate Economics, and The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Larson completed his Ph.D. in 2011 at the George Washington University. He is an active member of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association, the Regional Science Association, and the Urban Economics Association.
