HealthCorps, the national nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz in 2003, is the national leader in giving teens the tools they need to improve physical and mental health by helping them to exercise more, eat better, and practice positive thinking. Over the last decade HealthCorps has worked with over 250 schools to implement a evidence-based, proven curriculum that has resulted in thousand of participating teens increasing water intake, increasing vegetable consumption, increasing sleep, and improving SAT scores.       The YMCA of the Palm Beaches has partnered with HealthCorps to bring this pioneering program to Palm Beach County.  The partnership will kick off with a Kids Wellness Expo on August 13, 2016.  The event will promote healthy living, awareness, and provide health screening and wellness education to empower individuals to take charge of their health by focusing on nutrition, fitness and body, mind and spirit. The event will focus on middle aged to high school aged children and families featuring an all-star lineup of activities to include celebrity guest speakers, fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, medical screenings, seminars and friendly competitions, including a culminating talent show competition presented by 5 local high schools.        Proceeds raised from the event will directly benefit the community, providing funding to implement the HealthCorps curriculum in several high schools over the course of the year by training the teachers, supporting the students, imbedding the wellness practices in the schools, and tracking results. Event funding will also enable the YMCA to implement community education and provide health and wellness classes. An estimation of 6,000 Palm Beach County teens will be positively impacted by this inaugural event.
