I AM LIGHT CHILL is hosting a youth conference to educate, equip, and empower students in grades 7 to 12 for one day on the topic of injustice, with a special focus on sexual exploitation. Come and meet new friends, learn about the subject and about how Calgary is working to support those being impacted, and how you can be involved in stopping injustice in your city. What's Happening Learn what sexual exploitation is and how to protect yourself and others Listen to a real life story of recovery Discover the facts and statistics for Calgary and Canada Take part in interactive workshops run by leaders in the community What you'll leave with: An understanding of what sexual exploitation is and how to identify it What resources are available to you, if you or a friend needs assistance How to engage your community/school/youth group on the subject Connect with other students around your city and be a part of the I AM LIGHT community Creative ideas to start community impact projects Who is this conference for? Youth in grades 7 through 12 who want to make a difference in their community. If you are interested in learning more on the subject of injustice you are invited to come join us for the day! Psst! OWN IT is an interactive session designed to help you put creativity and desire for change into action. We believe you can make a difference. OWN IT gives you the opportunity to work with new friends, be creative, and start challenging others to join you in bringing light to the darkness of exploitation. WorkShop Options and Presentations Your Voice Your Choice: Know Your ClientJoin Karcy Carruthers from Your Voice Your Choice as she presents an interative workshop.Know Your Client (KYC): Assessing your advisor – GUESS what it is YOU! What emotional missteps have you made, forgetting that the intellectual ones may have changed your personal life path? Taking emotion wright out of your decisions at times is tough but can be achieved. Your Voice Your Choice: Is Your Time Horizon Running OutJoin Karcy Carruthers from Your Voice Your Choice as she presents an interative workshop.Is Your Time Horizon Running Out: Do not waste time, as your time is running out! Life saving tips, that everyone ought to know by cracking your Time Horizon Code! Lure, Groom, and Recruit Join a CHILL team member for a presentation on what Lure, Groom and Recruit mean and how they are used as tactics of manuipluation. Through this session you will build a foundation of understanding of what the facts are that make someone vulnerable. What are the myths? What are the facts? Can you spot the difference? Responding Well Join Ivy Friesen from StreetLight for an interactive workshop about drugs and addictions. You will learn how addiction happens and how to journey alongside someone living in an active addiction. Homelessness Join Brittany Vine from The Mustard Seed for a workshop about homelessness in the Calgary area. This workshop will look at developing an understanding of the complex issues that lead to homelessness and poverty in the city of Calgary. Come engage with us through story, and jenga, and challenge yourself to think about your role in our community. FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? The event is for youth in grades 7 through 12 What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Limited parking space is availalbe. We recomend car-pooling or getting dropped off. Please inform us if you are planning on parking at the building. The building is about a 15 minute walk away from the Southbound McKnight Westwinds C-train station. What can I bring into the event? Please bring a water bottle, a snack (allergy friendly if possible), and something to write with. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? You can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org What's the refund policy? Tickets will be refunded up until a week before the event. After this date tickets will no longer be refunded. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Yes. Can I update my registration information? Yes. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Yes, but you must inform us of this change.
