Heroin & Prescription Opioids Awareness Event
Event on 2017-03-09 18:30:00
*Join us for resources, information and an open forum with a mother to a person living with addiction.*
Opioid overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S., surpassing motor vehicle accidents. The number of opioid-related deaths in Rockland County has increased by 875% since 2003. The opioid epidemic is growing larger and younger – especially as our youth begin to abuse prescription opioid medications at higher rates.
Rockland Connects is organizing a community Opioid Awareness Series across Rockland County through teach-ins in local libraries. These teach-ins will educate individuals on the opioid epidemic, and ways in which they can help reduce the harms of drug use. Increased awareness around the risk factors of drug dependence, available resources, and overdose prevention is essential to tackling the growing opioid epidemic in Rockland County.
This March 9th, India Perez-Urbano, Founder of Rockland Connects, will be joined by a passionate mother of a person living with heroin and alcohol addiction. She will share her story with us, and bring light to this incredibly important issue. This is an opportunity to ask questions, get connected to resources, and support from those in the community with shared experiences.
March 9th, 6:30-7:30PM
Suffern Free Library, 210 Lafayette Avenue, Suffern NY 10901
