Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services (ACBHCS) is please to invite you to the first of two Tobacco Learning Conferences for all BHCS agencies and contractors. Our first conference is targeted to partner agencies and grantees Executive Directors, Program Directors, Board of Directors and other organizational leaders. ACBHCS is committed to addressing and treating Tobacco Use Disorder in all of our programs. The second conference will be held in early 2018 for direct service staff. Attendees at the September 14, 2017 Tobacco Learning Conference will learn about best practices for implementing the BHCS November 2016 Provider Tobacco Policies and Consumer Treatment Protocols in drafting realistic plans for successful implemntation and provided with materials to support this. Our keynote speaker and a panle of agency leaders will give real world experiences in creating smoke-free organizations and programs. Why is this Conference so important? -Individuals with mental health/alcohol and other drugs conditions smoke at much higher rates than others (60 – 90%) -Tobacco use is the number one killer of our consumer/clients and -Tobacco use severely affects their health, as well as the mental health that we work so hard to improve and protect. Conference attendees will leave with: -A vision for implementing or strengthening their agencies agency's tobacco-free policy -A draft timeline for their agency's tobacco policy implementation -Tobacco-free posters and signage, a staff tobacco policy training PPT, and an Agency Tobacco Policy Template -Resiurces to access Nicotine Replacement Therapy for staff and clients -Opportunity for one staff member to be trained to become a Tobacco Treatment Specialist who can guide other staff in integrating tobacco treatment into agency practices. Conference attendees will gain greater perspective for the importance of tobacco-free work environments, engage in shared learning to discuss experiences with tobacco and the work environment, and meet grantee contract for BHCS sponsored conferences and workshops. Our Keynote Speaker, Dr. William (Bill) Wilson, Dr.PH, is  Director of Practice Management, Clinical Operations for Austin Travis County Integral Care (ATCIC) which provides mental health and substance abuse services to 23,000 patients annually. Bill has 35 years of experience in behavioral healthcare in both private and public sectors as a CEO, CCO, COO, and consultant. He is currently responsible for Integrated Care, Chronic Disease Management, Tobacco Cessation, Telemedicine, Mental Health First Aid programming and other prevention services at ATCIC. He guided the model for taking ATCIC tobacco-free in 2010. Integral Care's Tobacco Cessation Initiative has received numerous recognitions and awards.
